On May 14, Chinese President Xi Jinping sent a reply letter to villagers living at the foot of the Badaling section of the Great Wall in the northern suburb of Beijing. In his letter, Xi underscored the unique value of the Great Wall and the significance of its protection. He called for efforts to let more people know about the Great Wall and engage more people in its protection to pass on the ancestors' precious heritage to future generations.
Xi is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPC Central Military Commission.
